Window Screen Help
Quick answers without interrupting your shopping.
Measure the existing aluminum screen frame from outside edge to outside edge. Record width first, then height, to the nearest 1/16 inch. Do not measure only the window opening when an existing screen is available.
Measure the screen track or opening carefully in several places. Window systems vary, so contact us before ordering when no original screen is available. We can help determine the correct finished size and hardware.
Enter the exact finished screen size you need. We manufacture to the dimensions submitted and do not automatically deduct from your measurements.
Available frame profiles include our standard 5/16 inch by 3/4 inch frame, 5/16 inch by 1 inch Heavy-Duty Deluxe, 3/8 inch by 3/4 inch, and 7/16 inch by 3/4 inch. The correct profile depends on the depth and design of your window screen track.
Our standard frame is roll-formed aluminum in a 5/16 inch by 3/4 inch profile. It fits many common residential window applications.
The 5/16 inch by 1 inch Heavy-Duty Deluxe frame is approximately four times stronger than our standard frame. Its wider face provides an upgraded appearance and added rigidity, making it an excellent choice for larger screens and solar-screen applications.
Aluminum does not rust like steel. It can oxidize or show surface weathering over time, especially in harsh coastal environments, but it is well suited for window screen frames.
Standard fiberglass mesh is a versatile insect screen used for most residential windows. It provides good airflow and visibility at an economical price.
Pet Screen is a very tough and durable polyester mesh designed to better resist damage from dogs, cats, and everyday wear. It is substantially stronger than standard fiberglass screen, although its heavier construction can slightly reduce airflow and outward visibility.
Solar screen is designed to reduce sunlight, glare, and solar heat before they enter the window. Because solar mesh is heavier than standard insect screen, our 5/16 inch by 1 inch Heavy-Duty Deluxe frame is an excellent upgrade for added strength and appearance.
20x20 mesh has a tighter weave than standard insect screen and helps block very small insects. The tighter weave slightly reduces airflow compared with standard mesh.
Tension springs are leaf-style springs installed in the screen frame. They apply pressure against the window track to help hold the screen securely in place.
Pull tabs provide a convenient place to grip the screen during removal. They are commonly installed opposite the tension springs.
A cross brace is commonly recommended for larger screens, especially when one dimension exceeds approximately 50 inches, to help reduce bowing and improve rigidity.
Standard fabrication time is currently 7 to 15 business days before shipping. Expedited fabrication, when available and selected, is 1 to 7 business days before shipping. Carrier transit time begins after fabrication and is additional.

We describe airflow as Estimated Net Free Area, or estimated NFA. For our standard 18 by 16 fiberglass mesh with approximately 0.011 inch strand thickness, we use an estimated 66% open-area factor. Subtract 1.5 inches from both overall vent dimensions for the 3/4 inch aluminum frame on each side, multiply the remaining clear-opening dimensions, and multiply that area by 0.66.
A 7 inch by 24 inch vent has an approximate clear screened opening of 5.5 inches by 22.5 inches. That equals 123.75 square inches of screened opening. Multiplying by the estimated 0.66 open-area factor gives approximately 81.7 square inches of Estimated Net Free Area. This is a calculated estimate, not an independently certified laboratory rating, and actual airflow may vary.
No. The value shown is an Estimated Net Free Area calculated from the clear screened opening and an estimated 66% open-area factor for the standard mesh. It is not presented as an independently tested or certified laboratory rating.
Custom screen dimensions are produced to an approximate tolerance of plus or minus 1/16 inch.
